In China, the first inhabited eco-city

Electric cars, smart homes, eco-friendly neighborhoods. Some might think that this is yet another project for one Smart City but is not so. In China it is already a reality with the former eco-city inhabited.

We hear more and more often about Smart City, smart, ecological and citizen-tailored cities, various projects have been presented in Italy for setting up smart cities but we see that a few kilometers from Beijing something very big has already been built. L'eco-city it is already welcoming the first inhabitants.

The "eco-city, but has all the credentials to get the nickname of Smart City. It is Sino-Singapore Tianjin, located a few kilometers from Beijing and born from a project between Singapore and the Chinese government. The project has its roots in April 2007 and today it begins to welcome its first inhabitants. In 2007 it was just a concept that was based on three fundamental pillars, defined "harmonies ".

  • Principle of Social harmony where the inhabitants can live in harmony with each other.
  • Principle of Economic Harmony according to which people can rely on stable economic activities.
  • Principle of Environmental harmony, thanks to which, it is possible to live by implementing policies of eco-sustainability.

There Smart City born in China follows basic principles in the industrial world: the city is replicable and can be taken as a model by other countries, it adopts technologies eco-friendly commercially accessible, spin-offs could arise from the model implemented.

The concept was born in 2007 but in 2008 the Tianjin Eco-City already it could count on a concreteness of 30 sq km, an area equal to about half of the territory on which Manhattan extends. We are in 2012 and Tianjin Eco-City has begun to host the first inhabitants who left their homes in order to experience a more "harmonious“.

There smart city or as many call it, the futuristic eco-city, by 2020 it will be populated by 350,000 inhabitants with a "start-up" expected by the end of 2013. The city is located in the heart of the Tianjim Binhai New Area, one of the fastest-growing areas in China. It is located just 150 km from Beijing. The choice of geographical location makes use of the principle of "Environmental harmony": Others futuristic city they are designed to arise in deserted, uncontaminated areas. There Tianjin Eco-City it is located a few kilometers from Beijing in order not to steal precious land that could be used for agricultural development.

So Tianjin Eco-City it is truly eco-frindly, it does not support the phenomenon of land grabbing and with its inhabitants it can make a difference. Before the development ofEco-city, the territory mainly included salt and dry lands, polluted water bodies and waste water. The first step in fulfilling the project was a land reclamation that allowed for a first change of scene.

Design one sustainable mobility it was a fundamental step in setting up the Tianjin Eco-City. The objective of mobility aims to increase the spread of public transport and non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles and pedestrian paths, which is why ad hoc roads have been designed, obviously for motorized vehicles there will be no space for fossil fuel cars . There energy grid of the eco-city futurists sees the exploitation of renewable sources such aswind energy with turbine installations in the useful areas of the perimeter of the city, and the photovoltaic.
